Gold rush: Flak, not coins, comes the Speaker's way

Bengaluru: Are MLAs going to be able to get away with gifting themselves expensive mementos like gold sovereigns to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the Vidhana Soudha! Not any more, it seems. The man who was seen to be behind it — Assembly Speaker K.B. Koliwad — has lashed out at everyone from the media to his own critics both within and outside the party, and backtracked. “I have never proposed the gold coin distribution among legislators,” said Mr Koliwad. It has finally hit home — the state should allocate every resource at hand for rain-relief, not give legislators more of what they already have!
