Dear Bescom, are you still in primitive world: B’lureans

Sudden rains on Monday threw traffic out of the gear and several roads were flooded.

Bengaluru: If there is one magic wand that turns the entire city dark it is the sudden rain. Despite repeated complaints by residents about power cuts immediately after rains, Bescom is still following the age old tradition of cutting the power religiously.

Several areas in the city like BTM Layout, Hennur, Venkatapura, Koramangala, Jakkasandra, New Micro Layout, Hosur Road, Basaveshwarnagar, Tavarekere, Kaggalipura, Attiguppe and other areas were without power as rain came pouring late evening.

"Are we living in a primitive world or what? When it rains, Bescom connection is immediately pulled out and is restored only when the rain stops. What is the connection between rain and power? It is the Silicon Valley and we are supposed to be advanced," said Mr Sunil Kumar, a resident of Venkatapura.

Many Bengalureans took to social media to vent their anger over the incapability of Bescom. They argued why there should be a power cut when it rained.

"Bescom's Twitter handle lists power interruptions in so and so areas and regrets the inconvenience caused. Why should power be interrupted and who wants the regrets of Bescom. We are ready to pay for the power we consume, but Bescom is busy cutting powers when it rains," said Mr Jayaram, a techie.

Sudden rains on Monday threw traffic out of the gear and several roads were flooded.

While the BBMP control room maintained that there were no complaints of water logging, there were incidents of trees and branches falling across the city.
