Kochi Metro to run another trial next week

Unlike the earlier trials, sand bags will be used in the coaches to simulate the weight of passengers.

KOCHI: A trial run of Metro coaches at the maximum speed of 90kms per hour will be held between Muttom yard and Palarivattom next week. The trial will be on both the up line (Muttom to Palarivattom) and the down line (Palarivattom to Muttom). This is the first down line trial run for the coaches. Unlike the earlier trials, sand bags will be used in the coaches to simulate the weight of passengers.

The trials are a part of the second series of test runs for coaches to assess the synergy of all elements of the metro. During the last trials in July, the coaches ran at a speed of 80 kms per hour along the six-km stretch from Muttom yard to Edapally Toll Junction. The critical factors targeted then were enhanced speed, traction continuity, track steadiness and communication which were found to be satisfactory. Later, track laying up to Palarivattom was completed and is now ready for the test run.
