Cambridge Vice-Chancellor for closer ties with IISc

The Cambridge VC called for a joint desire for research in the field of fundamental and applied sciences.

Bengaluru: Cambridge University Vice-Chancellor Professor Leszek Borysiewicz has emphasized on the importance of collaboration between universities to find solutions to pressing global issues. While speaking on the topic ‘Global collaboration in the face of global challenges’, at IISc here, Borysiewicz remarked, “Bengaluru and Cambridge are similar. Bengaluru is called the silicon valley and Cambridge the silicon fen. This is a high point for UK-India partnership and I want to improve five-fold. IISC and University of Cambridge both have world class facilities.” The Cambridge VC called for a joint desire for research in the field of fundamental and applied sciences.

He was least perturbed by the fact that none of the Indian universities figure in top world rankings. “You may ask why Indian universities, because they do not make it to the list of 1st 200 rankings. Do you believe in rankings? I don't. The universities here have great academic staff and there is political commitment from the government. They have pledged to make collaboration between universities easier, at least on paper. The youth of India will be the future leaders of science,” he said.
