Kin of slain CPM leader to move High Court

Nazeer was attacked allegedly by a six-member group of CPM activists on July 25 at Erattupetta town.

Kottayam: The family members of K. A. Nazeer (56), the local CPM leader of Erattupetta, who was murdered by CPM activists recently, have decided to move the High Court demanding justice for the family. They alleged that the police investigation into the murder was not progressing and that they will not get justice from the party.

Nazeer, who was the Pathazhapady branch secretary of the CPM, was attacked allegedly by a six-member group of CPM activists on July 25 at Erattupetta town. He died on August 5 while undergoing treatment at the Kottayam MCH. The attack was a sequel to the complaint Nazeer had forwarded to the party leadership complaining that a section of the party leaders at Erattupetta had helped Mr P.C. George in the Assembly elections.

In another complaint sent to the party control commission, he had alleged that a former secretary of the CPM Erattupetta local committee had settled a case in connection with the selling of a land. Nazeer was attacked when he was coming out of a DTP centre with a CD drive reportedly containing the details of his complaints. “We want justice, which has been denied to us,” said Muhammad Kunnumpurathu, the younger brother of Nazeer.

“We will approach the court to intervene in the case as the police investigation is not progressing well,” Muhammad Hussain, the elder son of Nazeer told DC. He also demanded the intervention of the party state leadership to get them the justice as they had lost their bread winner. The party has appointed a two- member committee comprising Lalichan George, former Pala area secretary of the CPM and another leader M.T. Joseph to inquire into the murder.
