Kerala pleader casts doubt on fate of cases

E. Chandrasekharan, however, said changing government pleader is a matter of routine procedure and there was no ulterior motive behind the decision.

KOCHI: Senior government pleader Susheela Bhat, who has been removed from the post by the state government, has expressed apprehension over the fate of a slew of cases connected with encroachment of government land by plantation companies. Ms Bhat told reporters in Kochi that all these cases have reached in the final stages of hearing and changing the pleader at such a juncture may impact the outcome of the cases.

Revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan, however, said changing government pleader is a matter of routine procedure and there was no ulterior motive behind the decision. Congress leader and former MLA T.N. Prathapan alleged that Ms Bhat, known for conducting cases involving plantation companies efficiently, has been changed to help the companies.
