Cash move done without alternate arrangements: S Thirunavukkarasar

There is no difference of opinion on eradicating black money, but alternate arrangements had not been made.

Chennai: Charging Prime Minister Narendra Modi with announcing the demonetisation of currency without making proper arrangements, TNCC chief S. Thirunavukkarasar on Tuesday said Rs 500 notes had not arrived and there is a shortage of Rs 100 notes.

Talking to reporters after a poetry session on former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at Sathyamurthy Bhavan here, he said the demonetisation had been announced in haste. People are unable to change currency waiting in long queues and the Prime Minister cannot escape people's anger. There is no difference of opinion on eradicating black money, but alternate arrangements had not been made.

Most of the villagers do not have bank accounts, he said, urging the state government to make arrangements to exchange notes through cooperative banks. The state government should not be complacent as demonetisationsis a central scheme.

Expressing happiness over the statement of Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa with regard to the by-elections in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, he hoped that future statements would contain matters related to people's welfare.
