KRISHNAGIRI: Two women of a Bengaluru family died on the spot and several others grievously injured after a container trunk landed on an omni van at Kammandoodi in Krishnagiri district on Chennai-Bengaluru highway early on Thursday. The occupants of the van were returning home after visiting the Shiva temple in Tiruvannamalai.

Investigation revealed that the mishap occurred after the driver of the Omni van

The container truck tailgating the omni van had lost control when the driver tried to stop the vehicle from hitting the Omni van but the truck rammed into the van and stopped after landing on it.

U. Hemalatha (42) and her relative woman M. Ambika (30) both resident of Yeshwanthapura and J.P. Nagar in Bengaluru of neighbouring Karnataka, respectively, died on the spot.

Others including 50-year-old Nagabhushanam working as the conductor in the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation and resident of Bannarghatta, his relative women Parimala (47), Vindhya, Suma and Sarvamagala were
rescued alive and admitted to Hosur government hospital.

The police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
