Moolamattom unit springs leaks

Kottayam: A leakage was noticed at the generators of the Moolamattom power house after it was noticed at the Sphercial Valve of the fourth and fifth generators of the power house. However, according to the power house authorities, since the leakage is not serious, two of these generators are functioning. According to power house sources, neither the production nor the distribution of electricity from the power house would be affected due to the leakages from the two generators.

The Spherical Valve is next to the turbine of the generators in the power house. The leakages were noticed at two of the generators a few days ago. It is through these valves that the water flows to the two generators. “Since the water to the turbines are coming through these valves, the extent of the leakage could be ascertained only after stopping the functioning of these generators. The deficiency could be rectified only if one gets two weeks time after conducting the necessary examinations”, sources from the power house told DC.

However, KSEB is trying to delay the examination for some time since that can cause a decrease in the electricity production. According to KSEB authorities, the current shortage of electricity could be rectified only if the power house functions at its full strength since there is a substantial reduction in the amount of electricity available from the Central pool. The annual maintenance works of three generators and the works of the valves of the two other generators are about to take place. Right now 5.6 lakhs units of electricity is being produced at the Moolamattom power house per day.
