Top honour for Nalgonda martyrs

The police personnel were killed in a gun battle with the fugitives at Janakipuram in Nalgonda.

Hyderabad: Sub-inspector Dudekula Siddaiah of the Atmakur police and constable Ch. Nagaraju, who were killed in an exchange of fire with terror suspects of the Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in Nalgonda on April 4, 2015, were posthumously named for the prestigious President’s Police Medal for Gallantry on Sunday, the eve of the 70th Independence Day

The police personnel were killed in a gun battle with the fugitives at Janakipuram in Nalgonda. The killers had escaped from the Khandwa jail in 2013 and were wanted in terror cases across the country. They were shot dead in an encounter later.

Twenty-four personnel of anti-terror Counter Intelligence police, including superintendent of police Rajesh Kumar who participated in anti-ISIS operations and policemen injured in the Nalgonda encounter were named for the Police Medal for Gallantry.

Then circle inspector of Ramannapet police A. Chinna Bala Gangireddy, who survived the Nalgonda encounter with bullet injuries, was named for the Police Medal for Gallantry. Dr T. Prabhakar Rao, now DIG and then superintendent of police who was shifted from Nalgonda after the SIMI attack was awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry.

TS Counter Intelligence cell additional superintendent of police M. Chandra Shekar, deputy superintendent of police M. Dayananda Reddy, inspectors K. Ravinder Reddy, Ch R.V. Phaneednar and Vemula Bhaskar, head constables Syed Abdul Kareem, Mohammed Mujeeb, Syed Sarwar Pasha, constables Mohammed Taj Pasha, S. Rajavardhan Reddy, Mohammed Musharaf Baba, N. Anil Kumar, V. Ramesh, K. Madhusudhan, G. Narendar, Md. Quadeer, T, Koteshwar Rao, M. Srinu, L. Janakiram, Reserve sub-inspector G. Satyanarayana, and assistant sub-inspector Soni Lal Amrit were bestowed with the Police Medal for Gallantry.

DG Fire Services Rajiv Ratan was named for the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service along with SVP National Police Academy joint director Rajeev Sabharwal and sub-inspector P. Nagabhushanam.

Special Police commandant Y. Srinivasa Rao, Vigilance assistant SP Ch. Narotham Reddy, Special Police assistant commandant K.S. Natarajan, Special Intelligence Branch assistant SP P. Muralkrishna, ACP (passport verification) Shaik Mohammed Nizamuddin, Gadwal DSP A. Balakoti, Special Branch inspector A. Venkata Satyanarayana, assistant sub-inspector Intelligence D. Veeranagaiah, Counter Intelligence cell assistant sub-inspector V. Panduranga Rao, Special Police head constable Abdul Nayeem, Intelligence head constable D. Balakrishna were given the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

In the fire department, station house officer B. Mallaiah, leading firemen V. Edaiah and K. Shankaraiah were awarded the fire services medal for gallantry.
