Malappuram to get 1st incubation centre

Kerala district with most entrepreneurs, did not have facility.

KOZHIKODE: It has been noted that Kerala has the highest number of entrepreneurs coming from Malappuram district, but none of them are ready to stick to their hometown and develop their ideas. Keeping this in mind, the Malappuram district administration is joining hands with Kerala StartUp mission opening an exclusive and massive incubator centre at Malappuram shortly. The incubation centre aims to provide space and infrastructure to budding entrepreneurs or startups to develop their project and thereby stop them from migrating to other districts in search of opportunities.

In a first step for the incubation centre, the district administration will soon open an innovation centre in the district, which will initially provide all guidelines and assistance to an individual or a group to develop their idea for startup. Talking about the initiative, Kerala Startup mission representative Mehar Moosa said, “It was surprising that many successful entrepreneurs in Kerala are from Malappuram, but none of them have a background for developing the ideas sitting in their hometown. Malappuram is growing daily in all aspects, but people tend to move to other cities. To stop this, an in house incubation centre is been planned and the Start Up mission has already visited the district to study about its feasibility.”

Elabortating on the importance of an incubation centre, Mehar said, “Business incubation centres are considered to be the foundation of economic growth and development. They contribute to this by pulling together the entrepreneurial motivation of a new enterprise with resources usually available to new enterprises. Kerala State Finance Corporation has also come up with attractive financial assistance projects for startups which can be utilised through this incubation centre, he added.
