Kerala High Court asks state to set up facilities for NRI panel

The court said salary due to the chairman and members shall be paid along with arrears within 15 days.

Kochi: Kerala High Court has asked the state to provide infrastructure and other facilities for the functioning of the recently set up Non-resident Indian (Keralites) Commission. The court granted one month’s time to provide them for the Commission, including facilities for filing complaints at Kochi. The court made it clear that the salary due to the chairman and appointed members of the commission shall be paid along with arrears within 15 days.

The court was considering a petition filed by an NRI from Saudi Arabia, who has recruiting issues with his erstwhile employer, who had illegally retained his salary and terminal benefits due to petitioner. The government on March 2, 2016, constituted a commission and made Justice P. Bhavadasan as chairman. The petitioner argued that although the committee has been formed and was ready to discharge its function, the state refused to provide the necessary infrastructure which disabled the commission.
