Cyberdrome tracks piracy of Bhairava in no time

A preliminary probe by the Kerala Police's Cyberdome revealed that it multiplied like anything and flew into different parts of the world.

Thiruvananthapuram: Within hours after Bairavaa was released on Thursday, a pirated copy appeared on tamilrockers.ac and soon it spread everywhere, and the downloads crossed a lakh.

A preliminary probe by the Kerala Police’s Cyberdome revealed that it multiplied like anything and flew into different parts of the world. Pirates had on Wednesday itself announced the arrival of the film on its portal the next morning. By 10 am, the copy of the Vijay – Keerthi Suresh-starrer appeared and spread to over 150 websites including Torrent, Tamilbox and Moviesonline.

Thiruvananthapuram-range IG Manoj Abraham, who is the nodal officer of the Cyberdome, said that a full-length version of the movie was uploaded and it was suspected to be copied from a theatre.

Tough it was possible to trace the source, the police would take further steps after getting formal requests from the producers of the film. The Cyberdome has already alerted them and only with their request, steps to remove the copies from the websites could be taken.

“The Cyberdome is using advanced tools like Piracy Tracker to crack online piracy. Piracy attempts on many Malayalam movies, including Pulimurugan, could be checked using these tools,” said anti-piracy professional and Cyberdome deputy commander Varghese Babu.

Tamilrockers is operated from Tamil Nadu. Hence it may take the time to track the source. However, from the watermarking on the print of the copy uploaded on the portal it would be possible to trace the theatre from which it might have been copied, said sources.
