Left parties to attend 48-hour train blockade on October 17, 18

Chennai: The Left parties have announced that they would participate in the 48-hour train blockade on October 17 and 18 urging the Centre to comply with the Supreme Court direction to form the Cauvery Management Board.

CPM state secretary G. Ramakrishnan appealed to all the parties to make the protest for a key people’s issue a big success. He also said all sections of people should come together to support the two-day protests.

‘It is the duty of the Centre to form the CMB as per the direction of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal formed according to the Constitution and the direction of the Supreme Court”, he said. The Centre is acting against the verdict of the Supreme Court and tribunal, betraying the people of Tamil Nadu, he added.

The CPI too passed a resolution asking its cadre, farmers and agricultural labourers, besides all sections of people. The resolution asked the public to avoid train journeys on those days and help the success of the protest.
