Mysuru: With Dasara fast approaching, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Mr Pratap Simha met Union Civil Aviation Minister Mr Ashok Gajapathi Raju and requested him to restart air connectivity of Mysuru with other parts of the country.
Mr Simha while making the request, said the Heritage City was a hub of tourism, yoga and education and had good infrastructure for industry too. He brought up the recent aviation policy in which regional air connectivity has been considered for converting non-operational airports into operational airports and to cope with the demand of Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
Mr Simha has proposed flights from Mysuru-Goa-Mumbai and vice versa, Mysore - Kochi - Thiruvananthapuram and vice versa, Mysuru - Hyderabad -Mumbai and vice versa, Mysuru – Delhi- Mysuru, Jaipur - Mysuru - Goa and vice versa, Mysuru - Chennai – Mysuru, Mysuru - Coimbatore - Mumbai /Delhi and vice versa and Mysuru - Mangaluru – Mysuru.
Mysuru Airport was upgraded at a cost of '82 crores by Airport Authority of India in 2009 and was inaugurated in 2010. The now defunct Kingfisher Airlines operated flights from October, 2010, to November, 2011, Spice Airlines from January, 2013, to October 2014, and Alliance Air from September 2015 to November 2015.
“People are ready to invest in air tickets, as time and safety matters most for them. With air connectivity, we can expect a 20 percent increase in domestic tourists visiting the city and 10 percent increase in international tourists,” said
tourism industry insiders.
