Kochi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested an absconding accused in the 2013 Narath armed training camp case. Azharudheen K T alias Azhar (24), a native of Mundonvayal, Narath, Kannur, was taken into custody on Monday night. As per the case, the accused persons, all activists of the Popular Front of India and the Social Democratic Party of India, had organised an arms training camp at Narath in Kannur on April 23, 2013. The cops had raided the camp and taken into custody 21 activists.
"Following a secret information, our team travelled to Narath and arrested him before briniging him to Kochi,” an officer said. According to NIA, Azhar was the president of PFI Narath Unit. He along with other accused organised the armed training camp. Azhar was guarding the compound of the building where the armed training was held and fled upon the cops arriving at the scene.
Azhar was produced before NIA court in Kochi and remanded to judicial custody till November nine. He was shifted to Ernakulam Sub-Jail later. NIA would file a petition seeking his custody for interrogation. Initially there were total 24 accused in the case out of which 22 persons faced trial. The NIA courted ordered jail sentence to 21 persons while acquitting one person last year.
