Six new small bridges to decongest Chennai

The emotional mayor on his last day of council's term's recalled the achievements of the corporation in the past five years.

Chennai: Chennai corporation has allocated Rs 21 crore for the bridges department for the fiscal 2016-17 to construct six new small bridges, maintain the existing ones in Chennai, mayor Saidai S Duraisamy informed the corporation council on Saturday.

The emotional mayor on his last day of council’s term’s recalled the achievements of the corporation in the past five years and also announced the introduction of one year training course on communicable diseases.

The training will be for a period of one year for 30 students and the course will be conducted at the Chennai communicable diseases hospital in north Chennai.
Recalling the infrastructure boost provided by the civic body he said that the extended area of Chennai corporation like Ambattur and Maduravoyal benefited a lot. For the current year the corporation has identified more than 3,000 road works to be taken up at a cost of Rs 563 crore.

He also mentioned that the Corporation has installed 13,952 LED lamps, 1,458 sodium lamps in the city so far at a cost Rs 36 crore. Earlier in the day, councillors spoke about the developments and drawbacks in their respective wards and took a group photo at the Ripon buildings after attending the farewell meet.
