HC directs status report over inf low of water into Divis Laboratories

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed the state government and State Pollution Control Board to furnish a status report on allegations leveled against Divis Laboratories near Choutuppal in Nalgonda district.

Some farmers from Gollanapalli and Nemalikalva villages in Valigonda mandal had approached the High Court 10 years ago complaining that Divis Labs was contaminating Musi river by releasing effluents into it. There were also complaints that the pharma company was drawing water from the nearby water bodies through pipelines because of which lakes were drying up.

Earlier, the court had given specific directions to the PCB to prevent the company from releasing waste into Musi river.

Presently the case came before a division bench headed by the Chief Justice. Apart from a status report, the court sought details about how the company was getting water for its needs.
