DC impact: SHRC seeks report on police harassment at bus terminus

It may be noted that a woman, Annapoorna was allegedly harassed by police personnel, when she was trying to rest for a brief while due to sickness.

Chennai: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Tuesday directed the additional director general of police to conduct an inquiry and file a report, regarding the alleged harassment meted out by a young Bengaluru woman at CMBT on Monday.

Taking suo moto cognizance of a report published in Deccan Chronicle on Tuesday, ‘Harassed woman says no safety in the city’, the SHRC directed the ADGP to conduct an inquiry into the incident by not below the rank of DSP and submit the report within eight weeks.

It may be noted that a woman, Annapoorna was allegedly harassed by police personnel, when she was trying to rest for a brief while due to sickness, in the Koyambedu bus terminus. She stormed into a press meet being addressed by the transport minister, M.R. Vijayabhaskar at the Koyambedu bus terminus and said that the police had pushed her, using their lathis to poke her.
