Telangana cops to hold run for martyrs

DGP Anurag Sharma said the programme would help the public understand policing.

Hyderabad: Telangana police will host India’s first Police Martyrs’ Memorial Run on October 16 to honour police martyrs and create a platform for citizens to interact with cops.

DGP Anurag Sharma said the programme would help the public understand policing. The police would also conduct a two-day exhibition for all citizens. Anybody can register themselves online or offline to run with the police. The police has also launched a website for the event. “5,000 participants will join the Martyrs’ Memorial Run organised by the Telangana Police in association with the Ministry of Home Affairs to remember the sacrifices made by policemen and women,” Anurag Sharma told the media on Sunday.

The Martyrs’ Memorial Run will have three categories — 2 km, 5 km and 10 km. The event is an endeavour by the police to build community engagement. Citizens will have an opportunity to run along with cops from across the country, he said.

The DGP launched www.policerun.in, and said the police would make the run an annual event in the state. He said an exhibition will be held at the People’s Plaza on October 15 and 16 for partner police forces. The department will display its equipment, weaponry, fleet etc at the exhibition. Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organisations also will participate in the programme.
