Triple life term to CISF cop for killing 3 at Kalpakkam

Chennai: The Additional District Court, Chengalpattu, has awarded triple life sentence to a Central Industrial Security Force personnel on charge of shooting three persons to death at Madras Atomic Power Station at Kalpakkam four years ago.

According to prosecution, Vijay Pratap Singh of Allahabad was working as a head constable in the atomic power plant. On October 8, 2014, he reported for work in the small hours. He collected his rifle, walked to the first floor of the barracks and shot CISF head constable Mohan Singh, 57, of Jahangirpur in Rajasthan. He also opened fire at CISF personnel preparing for the morning shift.

He also killed an assistant sub-inspector R Ganesan, 58, of Salem, and head constable A Subburaj, 54, of Madurai. Other personnel Pratap Singh, and head constable Govardhan Prasad Singh, of Jammu and Kashmir, sustained injuries in the shootout.

When the matter came up for hearing before the Additional District Court, Chengalpattu, on Monday, the Additional District Judge, Dr K. Ramanathan, said the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. The judge awarded three life sentences for killing three personnel. The judge also slapped him with a total fine of '15,000. Vijay Pratap Singh was lodged at Puzhal prison.
