Medical devices park in Thiruvananthapuram

The park is expected to be set up with financial support from the state and Central governments.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology and Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation have signed an MoU for a Rs 180-crore medical devices park on Life the Science Park premises near Pallip-uram, near here. The park is expected to be set up with financial support from the state and Central governments. It will have a medical device testing and evaluation centre accredited to international agencies, an R&D resource centre, the services of which would be shared by entities within the park, a knowledge centre, a centralised unit for skill upgrade with facilities for training and provide support on regulatory issues, especially clinical trials.

A technology business incubation centre for promoting start-ups and early stage companies and a set of modular manufacturing units for lease or land modules for setting up manufacturing units are its other features. Distinctly, the park will focus on high-risk medical device sector involving medical implants and extracorporeal devices, the domain in which Chitra centre has considerable expertise and experience. The project has been conceived as a financially self-sustaining model.
