Naval employee drowns in Vizag sea, another missing

The company of INS Sumitra of Indian Navy comprising 54 people came to Yarada beach to play sports

VISAKHAPATNAM: A naval employee died of drowning and another was missing at sea off the Yarada beach on Sunday. The victim was identified as Petty Officer Whengbam Jagajit Singh of Manipur while Subham of Uttar Pradesh is said to be missing.

The New Port police said the company of INS Sumitra of Indian Navy comprising 54 persons came to Yarada beach between 7.30 am and 7.45 am and played sports from 8 am to 9 am. At about 9.15 am, Jagajit Singh, Shubham, Sunil and Vinit Kumar ventured into the sea before proceeding for breakfast.

In the meantime, a big wave swept away all the four persons. However, Jagajit Singh, Sunil and Vinit were brought to the shore. Noticing that Jagajit Singh was unconscious, he was shifted to INHS Kalyani , where he died at 11 am.

Meanwhile, Shubham remains missing. Efforts are continuing to trace the missing person, police said.
