Hyderabad: A 17-year-old girl committed suicide after she fought with her family over a petty matter at Adibatla. N. Mamatha, an Intermediate second year student, drank a cleaning agent and collapsed at home.
After the incident, her elder sister, Ashvini, also consumed poison. However, she survived after being shifted to a hospital.
Adibatla police said Mamatha was depressed after she was diagnosed with anaemia. She had quarrelled with her family when they were discussing her health.
“She had gone to her room crying at night and later she consumed the cleaning agent and collapsed. She was brought dead to hospital,” a police official from Adibatla said.
After knowing about her death her sister Ashvini also consumed the same liquid. But, relatives rushed her to Osmania hospital, where she was immediately treated. Doctors said her condition was stable.
Mamatha’s relatives said she was under treatment for her illness for a while and was not able to focus on studies and other daily activities. Adibatla police launched an investigation into the death.
