TN bypolls: Election officials seize Rs 2 crore, 3 kg gold, 41 kg silver

Police had been directed to provide a three-tier security cover for the strong rooms at the counting centres.

Chennai: Twelve companies of paramilitary force mostly from Telengana have been deputed for poll duty and they will take over the security arrangements in three poll bound assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, a senior government official said.

Disclosing the seizures by officials on poll duty, the official said that till Sunday, un-accounted cash to an extend of Rs 2 crore, 3.5 kilos of gold, 41 kilos of silver along with Indian made foreign liquor bottles have been seized from all the three constituencies Thirupparankundram, Thanjavur and Aravakurichi.

Police had been directed to provide a three-tier security cover for the strong rooms at the counting centres. Each company of central paramilitary forces will have about 40-armed personnel and they will leave Tamil Nadu after the voting machines are stored in counting stations on November 19, the official said.
All three constituencies have more women voters, Thiruparankundram with 2.85 lakh electors will have the maximum number of voters followed by Thanjavur and Aravakurichi with 2.68 and 2 lakh voters.

Meanwhile with less than 10 days to go, the campaign by the ruling AIADMK and the DMK has reached momentum. AIADMK has fielded former minister V Senthil Balaji and Rengasamy in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur assembly constituencies.
Former MLA Bose has been pitted in Thirupparankundram. DMK has fielded party old-timer K C Palanisamy and Anjugam Bhoopathy in Thanjavur. P Saravanan will be the DMK candidate in Thiruparankundram.
