Chennai Governor enquires about general administration affairs

In fast-paced developments, Raj Bhavan was beehive of activity with top bureaucrat also meeting Mr Rao twice.

Chennai: On a day of fast paced political developments, Rahul Gandhi made an unexpected air dash to the city to visit the Chief Minister admitted in hospital and Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao held parleys with senior ministers O Pannerselvam and Edappadi K Palanisamy, besides the Chief Secretary, on the state’s strategy when the high-level technical team visits the Cauvery Delta.

There was high excitement, especially among the media, when Chief Secretary P.Rama Mohana Rao met the Governor again in the evening, this time accompanying the two ministers. A late evening official statement from the Raj Bhavan said the meeting focused more on Cauvery, though the Governor enquired from the CS and the Ministers about the Chief Minister’s health and administrative affairs.

The high-level technical committee headed by Central Water Commission Chairman G.S. Jha is expected to visit the Cauvery Delta on Monday and Tuesday to assess the situation. The Raj Bhavan release said the CS and Ministers met Mr Rao on his request.

“Governor enquired about the arrangements made for the visit and information to be presented to the Committee to protect the welfare of farmers of Tamil Nadu. The Minister for Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports (Mr Palanisamy) explained in detail about the arrangements and related matters,” the press release said.

The Governor enquired from the ministers about the health condition of the Chief Minister and about “general administration affairs of the Government.” “The Chief Secretary to Government briefed Hon’ble Governor about the administrative affairs that are being carried out on a day-to-day basis and also other general matters,” the Raj Bhawan release said. The day began with Mr Gandhi visiting the Apollo Hospitals and getting a brief from doctors treating Ms Jayalalithaa on her health status.
