K M Mani not on agenda: CPM

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said induction of KC (M) was on the agenda of the CPM at the moment.

THRISSUR: The CPM has ruled out the induction of Kerala Congress (M) into the Left Democratic Front immediately. Speaking to reporters soon after KC(M) chief K.M. Mani announced the decision to part ways with the UDF, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said induction of KC (M) was on the agenda of the CPM at the moment.

“CPM is not interested in converting the ‘M’ associated with Kerala Congress into Marxist,” he said in a lighter vein. “(It) should remain as Mani and Mr Mani needed to be on guard that the ‘M’ would not be changed into Modi.” He believes it would further weaken the UDF which should be dissolved.

"The majority in JD (U) and RSP want to leave UDF, and such a Front does not have any future. It is the Congress policy to betray those in UDF. It is time for introspection for UDF constituents,” he added. Mr Kodiyeri also ruled out any chance for soft-pedalling the bar bribery case against Mr Mani. “Vigilance has been given a free hand in the case,” he said.

LDF convener Vaikom Viswan has also called for dismantling the UDF following the decision of KC (M) to sit as a separate bloc in the assembly. “The UDF has become irrelevant with Mr Mani deciding to walk out,” he said. He expressed doubts about the longevity of the equal distance policy of the Mr Mani.
