For Osmania University, centenary fete is a time to rejuvenate

Crumbling infrastructure to be revived.

Hyderabad: The centenary celebrations are proving to be a blessing in disguise for the Osmania University. Age-old infrastructure and the dilapidated buildings will be revamped and reconstructed with the support of state and Central governments. “You will hear good news soon,” OU Vice-Chancellor S. Ramachandram told DC. Asked about the poor infrastructure, Prof. Ramachandram said the varsity has decided to strengthen infrastructure. Proposals in this regard have been sent to the state government and Central governments for aid, he said.

“We proposed to develop infrastructure for boys and girls hostels, administrative building and other buildings that are in a dilapidated condition, lay roads, and revamp the centenary convention building, Tarnaka gate, Vidyanagar gate, automate the library, digitalise classrooms, provide laptops to research scholars among others,” he said. The university has also sought financial support from alumni, industry and other sectors and has opened a bank account for the purpose.

It includes “Go green initiative” Green belt development, landscaping, biodiversity park, solar streetlights, water purification plants, solar-powered vehicles, solar panels for the Arts College, life sciences, physics and chemistry departments and the engineering college. Prof. Ramachandram said OU was bracing up for the mega centenary celebrations of the varsity from April 26. Plans are also afoot to have celebrations across the State and also in Chicago, USA.
