3 AP teams advance in Pan-India competition

Final round is scheduled for fourth week of October.

Visakhapatnam: Three teams from Andhra Pradesh have cleared the first round of the Pan-India competition, being held by IIT Kharagpur on technology idea-tion for young innovators.

The Young Innovators’ Programme (YIP) is a platform to foster young minds of Classes VIII to X students with scientific enthusiasm and a credo to ideate solutions to technological challenges.

The competition covers key domains such as energy, agriculture and food sciences, environment, hardware modelling, product designing and biotech.

The competition comprises three rounds. Proposals from about 250 teams comprising 600 students from all over India, were considered for evaluation. Of them, 60 teams were short-listed for the second round based on the concept note of the project prepared by the students.

In the second round, the students will present detailed project synopsis based on which selection for the final round will be made.

“We are amazed to see how students have used their scientific knowledge to apply them to real-life problems and come up with technological propositions such as automatic writing pen, device for persons with disabilities, agricultural drone, horticultural treatment of sewage and drying-agent cooler for CFC emission,” said Debanjan Nayak, a 4th year student from the Branding and Relations Cell of IIT Kharagpur, a student group which is conducting this competition.

The final round is scheduled in the fourth week of October this year on the IIT Kharagpur campus. The finalists will get the opportunity to present their projects in front of distinguished researchers from among the faculty and alumni of the Institute.

The finalists would be required to prepare a model to demonstrate their ideas and propose solutions to the taken up problem.

“All finalists would get the opportunity to explore the scientific and sociocultural environment at IIT Kharagpur which may further inspire them to contribute to the field of science and technology and thereby to the society,” said Souvik Bhowmik, another student from the organising team.
