Thiruvananthapuram: Tagore Centenary Hall, the main venue of the much-awaited International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), has been equipped with state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos to ensure an enriching acoustic experience for hundreds of delegates. The Information and Public Relations Department (I&PRD) installed the sophisticated sound system worth Rs 1.89 crores ahead of the festival.
A top official of the department said that there will not be an official inauguration of the new sound system. "The team is calibrating the sound system. Trial runs are ongoing and by morning the system will be perfected. On Thursday evening, the director of I&PRD may officially inaugurate the system but there will not be a screening of movie as planned. The inaugural movie of the IFFK would be the first movie to be screened at the hall," said the official.
However, this year only one of the movies in the festival has a Dolby soundtrack. "The screen at the hall has 2k projection and the movie with Dolby Atmos is in 4k quality. Many of the other theatres hosting the festival have 4k projections and Dolby sound system," said the official.
The electronic wing under the Public Works Department (PWD) executed the Dolby Atmos project in Tagore hall.
