Students to get free entry for planetarium shows

Corp project to benefit 10,000 students

KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode Municipal Corporation will sponsor 10,000 students from City schools to watch planetarium shows and also to participate in various science expos, workshops and seminars in association with the Regional Science Centre and Planetarium. The Corporation will also arrange classes for teachers in City schools on Information technology to better use the digital classrooms.

The Corporation handed over Rs 3 lakh to the Regional Science Centre as part of the project to cover the charges for the ticket. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kozhikode Corporation Education Standing Committee Chairman M Radhakrishnan Master said that the project was aimed at creating better science awareness among students and also to equip teachers with IT knowledge to handle digital classrooms.

“The Corporation has launched digital classrooms in all City schools with modern facilities. However, most of the teachers are not effectively using technology due to lack of knowledge. By conducting classes for teachers using the expertise of Regional Science Centre, they can effectively use the facility for better teaching,” he added. Once in a month, teachers will get training from experts in their respective subjects using demo presentations.

Planetarium launches new digital show

Regional Science Centre and Planetarium will start a new 30-minute digital show from August 11. The show named ‘From Earth to Universe’ will replace ‘Incredible Universe’. However the children’s show ‘Back to the Moon for Good’ started during the Moon Week will continue. The show timings are 4 pm and 6 pm.

The 30-minute show directed by Greek filmmaker Theofanis N. Matsopoulos, and featuring a sweeping soundtrack from Norwegian composer Johan B. Monell will help the viewers revel in the splendour of the various worlds in the Solar System and the ferocity of the scorching Sun.
