Plants too go missing from vertical garden

Not content with stealing flower pots, some people have stolen the plants themselves.

HYDERABAD: Not content with stealing flower pots, some people have stolen the plants themselves.

A walk along the Hitex road from mini-Charminar to HICC, exposes one to dried up flowers and empty pots, all that now remains of a lush vertical garden installed for the GES.

Contractors had been employed to set up pretty vertical gardens ahead of the summit. In order to avoid the stealing problem, the GHMC is now planning to replace the flowering plants with the non-flowering one.

“We will be replacing the flowering plants in the vertical gardens with plants similar to those present in the GHMC offices. With non-flowering plants, we can avoid theft and plucking of the flowers by people,” said a GHMC official.

Though the vertical garden looks rather bereft, the contractor waters it religiously. Narsing Rao, who was watering the few plants left on Monday, said, “Since this vertical garden doesn’t have drip irrigation, we water it manually. More than three-fourth of the wall is gone.”
