Kochi police gear up for Indian Super League home match

The Manjappada or the Yellow Warriors, comprising fans of Kerala Blasters, are all set to support their team with innovative ideas and displays.

KOCHI: The cops in the city are bracing up to meet the challenge of the crowd and traffic management as Indian Super League Football’s first match at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is on Wednesday. The police is all set to ensure foolproof security for the match as well as the orderly movement of fans in the city, said K.K. Vijayan Assistant Commissioner. “We are deploying around 1,300 security personnel. We are also installing around 40 metal detectors”, he said.

As the police is moving ahead with their security drills, the fans of Kerala Blasters fans are all set to provide all out support to the club during the match between Blasters and Athletico De Kolkata. The Manjappada or the Yellow Warriors, comprising fans of Kerala Blasters, are all set to support their team with innovative ideas and displays.

A 6,000 sq ft banner, covering the East Gallery with 10,000 persons in blazing yellow, music and dance were in the offing, said M.S. Sujith an ardent Blasters fan. Apart from Malabar, fans are also expected from cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore and other places. “We are set to reach the venue well before 3 pm ” said Subin Mathew, one of the core administrators of the fan club.
