V M Sudheeran warns against mining

He said the mining consent once sanctioned by the former LDF government was cancelled by the UDF dispensation that followed.

KOZHIKODE: KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran on Sunday visited the controversial Payyanikkotta area of Chakkittapara panchayat and expressed solidarity with the Janakeeya Samara Samithi resisting mining plans there. He said the mining consent once sanctioned by the former LDF government was cancelled by the UDF dispensation that followed.

“Mining can not be allowed at any cost," he said. "KPCC extends all support to the Janakeeya Samara Samithi, a collective of many political parties. if the company had paid any bribe to the locals to leave the area, they should take it back, and if any of the residents have mistakenly received it, they should be ready to give it back.”

Mr Sudheeran also visited the house of slain IUML worker Muhammad Aslam in Thuneri, near Nadapuram where he condemned the style of policing in the state now, saying the CPM and BJP should put an end to the politics of violence. DCC president K.C Abu, KPCC general secretary K. Praveen Kumar, block Congress president Rajesh Marutheri and Janakeeya Samara Samithi convener Jithesh Muthukad accompanied him.
