Civic woes: BJP plans big rally against BBMP

The BJP also urged BBMP to chalk out a long-term and short-term plan to set right roads and pavements.

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has criticized the state government and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for their ‘dismal’ performance in the past one year.

At its executive committee meeting, the party resolved that if the government and BBMP do not pay attention to resolving problems of the public, it would launch a massive protest rally.

The BJP also urged BBMP to convene a meeting of all corporators to chalk out a long-term and short-term plan to set right roads and pavements to save people from death and injuries.

“We expected the state government to pull up BBMP and bring it on the right track to safeguard the interests of people. But the government is hardly bothered about public grievances”, the BJP stated in the resolution.

Though people suffered a lot during the recent rains with roads turning into lakes and boats deployed to move citizens from one place to the other, the Palike has not taken any steps to clear the encroachments on rajakaluves and storm water drains.

An action plan should be prepared to remove the encroachments and ensure a proper drainage system in the city, the party stated. Former minister Suresh Kumar, Bengaluru city MLAs and party corporators attended the meeting.
