Elite Managerial training for RTC officers in Pune

At present each KSRTC depot has a DTO.

KOZHIKODE: In another bid to revitalize the cash-strapped KSRTC, the corporation has sent a 15-member selected team of officials including District Transport Officers and Assistant Transport Officers for an elite management training programme at the Central Institute of Road Transport in Pune. The move is aimed at applying modern managerial techniques in operations and management, and also to reduce the strength of DTOs from the present 28 to 15. At present each KSRTC depot has a DTO. Once the 15 officials return after the 32-day training, they would be given charge of the 15 districts to head the corporation with better management skills.

A participant told DC that the move was part of the winds of change that was taking place in the corporation which would metamorphose the transporting giant into a modern entity by December. “Each bus station will be transformed into a transit hub driven by high-end technology”, he said. The move is a sequel to various changes in the administration of KSRTC since M.G. Rajamanikyam took charge as chairman and managing director.

It is to be recalled that a recent order (June 21) of the transport department, redeploying the existing Executive Directors (EDs) as zonal heads in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode, had invited the wrath of trade union leaders. Insiders revealed that Mr Rajamanikyam had directed the EDs either clear from the posts or quit. Fresh recruitment from highly qualified and experienced candidates would be conducted to the posts. The order also made MBA with a specialization in Human Resources Management mandatory for the post of executive director (administration) and MBA (finance) for ED operations.
