CM Pinarayi Vijayan, revenue minister E Chandrasekharan differ on academy land

The CM added that the land was earlier acquired by C.P. Ramswamy Iyer.

KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday ruled out the possibility of government taking over land of the Law Academy Law College in Thiruvananthapuram. However, revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan contradicted the Chief Minister saying that the probe into allegations levelled by veteran CPM leader V.S. Achuthanandan against the misuse of government land was currently going on. He said that action will be taken once he got the report from the officials To a question pm whether the government would take over Law Academy land, the Chief Minister replied that they were not worried about BJP leader V. Muraleedharan’s agitation.

“The land was acquired during CPI tenure. Some Pillai’s land was acquired then and the government cannot examine it now. I have not maintained sile-nce on the Law Academy issue,” he said. The CM added that the land was earlier acquired by C.P. Ramswamy Iyer. “The government has not thought about examining the issue,” he added. On the allegations of casteist remarks made by Lakshmi Nair against Dalit students, the Chief Minister said that probe into the issue was going on. Meanwhile, N.V. Venkatesan, the grandson of Sundaran Pillai said that the Chief Minister's reference “some Pillai” was painful. “We don’t know to react like politicians,” he said.
