CPM plans 6-day campaign against Centre

Public meetings, rallies and demonstrations will be held in all local centres across 14 districts.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM has decided to organise a six day state wide campaign from December 10 to 15 against the Central Government's demonetisation decision that has have wreaked havoc with the lives of people especially poor. Public meetings, rallies and demonstrations will be held in all local centres across 14 districts.

The Centre had withdrawn 500 and 1000 denomination notes which constituted 86 per cent of the money in circulation amounting to Rs 14 lakh crore, but failed to provide new currency notes to the people. The party said the Centre took the decision without any notice heaping miseries on the people. According to reports it would take at least 6 months to print the required currency notes even if the security press were to print them 24/7.

It said the cooperative sector had been badly affected, there is not enough money available in treasuries to pay the monthly salary and pension to government staff and retired personnel. Elderly people are finding it difficult to even meet the expenses of their routine medicines. The party also decided to launch a campaign against the Centre's move to destroy the public distribution system and rationing system in the name of implementing Food Security Act.
