Kerala govt to seek rail safety measures

G. Sudhakaran said the chief minister had written two letters while wrote three to the Centre seeking steps to improve rail safety in the state.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution urging the Union government to take steps to ensure the safety of train passengers in the state. Moving the motion, railways minister G. Sudhakaran said the chief minister had written two letters while wrote three to the Centre seeking steps to improve rail safety in the state. He said there was a shortage of more than 3000 personnel in the railways in the state and it was pressing for an exclusive zone, which could "only solve problems faced by commuters."

"The railway should also take steps to expedite the proposed railway coach factory in Palakkad and ensure bio-toilets on all trains," he said. "They should also take steps ensuring the safety of passengers. The failure of Railways to ensure the safe movement of passengers and trains is deplorable.” Ahamed Kabeer of the Indian Union Muslim League initiated the discussions as per notice under Rule 130. V. T. Balaram of the Congress while speaking on the issue demanded a high-level delegation led by the chief minister to take up the issues with the Union government.
