BJP sends Arun Jaitley on Kerala peace mission'

Accordingly, BJP central leadership decided on Thursday to send Mr Jaitley to the capital city on Sunday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A day after BJP MPs raised political violence in Kerala in the floor of the Lok Sabha, central BJP leadership has deputed top BJP leader and finance minister Arun Jaitley to visit Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. He will be visiting the slain RSS leader S. L. Rajesh's home at Sreekariyam also. The move is seen as part of the BJP national leadership’s efforts on politicising the CPM - BJP violence and push down the medical college scam.

Noisy scenes were witnessed on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday after party spokeswoman and Lok Sabha M.P. Meenakshi Lekhi alleged that Kerala had become a place of the Taliban. The two Rajya Sabha MPs from Kerala, Suresh Gopi and Richard Hay, had also called on union home minister Rajnath Singh seeking his intervention on Wednesday. Accordingly, BJP central leadership decided on Thursday to send Mr Jaitley to the capital city on Sunday.

This is the first time a central BJP leader is visiting the state after the crucial BJP core committee meeting was held almost a fortnight ago since the medical college scam had occurred. A top BJP leader told DC that Mr Jaitley will also be visiting the houses of BJP leaders which were attacked in political violence. “A memorial meeting will be held on Sunday after Mr Jaitley’s visit to Rajesh's home at Sreekariyam,” a top BJP leader said. “The venue of the memorial meeting is being finalised only and a final decision will be taken on Friday." Mr Jaitley is expected to hold talks with the top brass of the BJP state leadership on Sunday. The central leader is expected to rerun to New Delhi on the same day.
