Stay on order to close Travancore Titanium Products Limited extended

The stay was after citing the absence of an effective effluent treatment plant (ETP).

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has extended the stay on the Central Pollution Control Board order to close down the Travancore Titanium Products Limited (TTPL), Vettukad, Thiruvananthapuram, citing the absence of an effective effluent treatment plant (ETP). The court had earlier stayed the order for one month.

The court was considering a petition filed by Titanium General Labour Union (CITU), Titanium Products Labour Union (INTUC), Titanium Employees Coordination Council (TECC) and Titanium Officers Association seeking to quash the order. According to the petitioners, the order was illegal as it had been issued without complying with the mandatory requirement under rule 4 of the Environment Protection Rules. The CPCB did not consider that the EPT had become operational, they have submitted.
