Kerala: Labour department to start career centres soon

Psychologists will counsel youngsters with learning disabilities.

Kochi: The department of labour would start career development centres across the state to empower the youth to tap the emerging employment opportunities. Four centres would be set up in the first phase. The first one will come up at Perambra, Kozhikode, and the second at Chittoor, Palakkad. Additional secretary in the department M. Salim told DC that the centre would ensure training for all kinds of emerging jobs across the globe. “For job-seekers, we have testing modules to identify the tastes and calibre of each and training sessions would be designed in tune with the strengths and weaknesses of the individual,” he added.

Psychologists will counsel youngsters with learning disabilities. Training programmes in TOEFL and IELTS also would be conducted. Though the focus would be Perambra constituency initially, the centre would be open to all in the district. The centre is one of the promises made by Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan, who represents the constituency. The minister will inaugurate it on Sunday.
