Hyderabad: Doctors to conduct tests on patient to pronounce gender

General surgeon Dr R. Ragu who operated on the 37-year-old person said that externally the person had a male sexual organ.

Hyderabad: Doctors at the Gandhi Hospital on Friday came across a rare case while operating on a man, aged 37, with suspected hernia. During the operation the doctors found the person was a hermaphrodite as he had fully developed male and female reproductive organs. As both organs were fully developed, the doctors sent tissue samples for testing to find out which is the dominant genotype.

This has left his family distraught, as depending on the test result if the person is genetically a man or a woman, the other sexual reproductive organ will be removed by doctors. The person had approached Dr Jagadishwar, head of urology department last week, complaining of symptoms associated with hernia and had informed the doctors that he has two children.

General surgeon Dr R. Ragu who operated on the 37-year-old person said that externally the person had a male sexual organ.

One of the testicles of the person was present partly in the scrotum while the other was located inside. As a result the patient had thought that he had only one testicle.
