100 Anna University students can study courses at IIT-Madras

Anna University departments have already identified and submitted the preferred courses list.

Chennai: Aiming to provide a diverse experience for students, Anna University plans to send about 100 students to IIT Madras from next semester.

Undergraduate students studying in the fourth year, post-graduate students are eligible to take the elective course at IIT Madras.

The students can choose the course in their area of interest offered at IIT Madras. Likewise, the IIT Madras students also can take courses in Anna University.

“We are entering into the formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate student exchange between IIT Madras and Anna University,” said J. Kumar, director, Centre for Planning and Development, Anna University. The MoU is expected to be signed this week. “Students from IIT Madras also can benefit from this MoU. We have many specialised departments like mining and printing technology and remote sensing,” he said.

As per the existing procedures, students have to get prior approval from the director of academic courses before selecting the course in other institutions.

“Both sides can use the facilities available in both the institutions and submit joint proposals, they can also evolve teaching programmes. For each programme five to ten students alone will be permitted to take at IIT Madras,” he added.
