Thousands bid adieu to V V Dakshinamoorthy

KOZHIKODE: CPM leader V.V. Dakshinamoorthy, 82, who died on Wednesday, was cremated on the premises of his home at Paleri on Thursday in the presence of CPM leaders and party workers. His sons Prasad and Ajayakumar lit the funeral pyre while CPM workers raised slogans in his honour. Thousands, including leaders from various political parties, members of municipal corporation, employees of various institutions, college students and staff of Deshabhimani paid homage to Dakshinamoorthy, CPM state secretariat member and former chief editor of Deshabhimani daily, who passed away at Kozhikode district cooperative hospital on Wednesday.

His body was placed at the district committee office, Kozhikode, where Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan laid a wreath in the morning. Later, the body was shifted to CPM area committee office at Perambra where a large gathering paid their last respects to Dakshinamoorthy who represented the Perambra constituency thrice. When the body was taken to his home at Paleri, a mammoth crowd including students and teachers at Vadakkumpattu Higher Secondary School, bid adieu to the leader who had taught at the school for 20 years.
