Maoist posters are back at Nilambur

Maoists were observing anniversary of slain leaders Kuppu Devaraj and Ajitha.

MALAPPURAM: After a break, posters suspected to be put up by Maoists have resurfaced again in Vazhikkadavu near Nilambur. The posters were found pasted on the walls of an anganwadi at Punchakkolli tribal settlement by local residents on Tuesday morning. The content of the poster suggests that Maoists were observing the anniversary of slain leaders Kuppu Devaraj and Ajitha who were shot dead by the police last year deep inside the Nilambur forests near the Punchakkolli tribal hamlet.

“The killing of Kuppu Devaraj and Ajitha were violation of human rights. They were betrayed by some. The killers will be punished and we won’t spare the betrayers,” the poster read. Besides Devaraj and Ajitha the poster also mentioned the names of other slain Maoists like Sinoj, J.M. Krishna, Ellappa, Sinik and Naveen Prasad. They also sought support from the residents of the tribal settlement. Devaraj, a central committee member of banned CPI (Maoist) and Ajitha, a woman leader were killed in shoot out with the police on November 2016 inside Nilambur forests. Earlier there were reports that Maoists have regrouped in recent months in the forests region after last year’s police operation.
