THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: District Collector S. Venkatesapathy conducted ‘Ooril oru divasam’, a one-day-adalat programme on Saturday at tribal hamlets in Peringammala to solve several civic issues in the area. The programme was held for Njaraneeli, Kattilakuzhy, Karuppinkaala, Ooramoodu and Inchiyam tribal hamlets of Peringammala panchayat. The collector received around 129 complaints. Officials have been asked to submit the ‘action taken’ report in a week. Pleas were mostly to provide basic facilities such as drinking water, toilets, new housing, medical camps, vehicle access and roads among others.
New bus service
Due to lack of transportation, many of the 250 tribal families have to start early in the morning to reach city by 10 am for work. Many claimned that to buy medicine of Rs 20, they have to spend hundreds of rupees on autorickshaws. The Collector asked transport officials to look into the possibility of starting bus services here. Though earlier Palode depot has conducted feasibility study to start service till Chittoor and Eyyakodu, the project was put on the backburner after the Assembly election.
Cycles, tables for children
Uthaman, a tribal student, and 18 of his friends told Collector that they had to travel long distance to reach Peringammala LP School. Collector asked officials to allot cycles, tables and chairs for the school going children. He ordered shifting of anagnwadi from Adiparambu to Eyyakodu to benefit around 20 tribal students who had no option to study. An umbrella group of adivasis named ‘Vanavakasha Samithi’ requested possession documents for families in seven hamlets. Forest Officers have been asked to address their complainst quickly and urgent SDLC and CDLC meeting has been convened to solve the issue. Ration cards were handed over to 34 families in the presence of district panchayat president V.K. Madhu.
