Hyderabad: The main Opposition Congress on Thursday alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Maharashtra Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao entered into a secret pact last year that led to the TS government agreeing for a reduction of the height of Tammidihatti barrage as well as other major irrigation structures in the state. The party said that this would be helpful only to Maharashtra and not to TS.
Addressing the media here, Congress senior MLAs T. Jeevan Reddy and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said it was common knowledge that both Mr Chandrasekhar Rao and the TRS had pressed the Centre for national project status to Pranahita-Chevella launched by the Congress government. They said that Mr Rao changed his views after celebrating his birthday in the Maharashtra Raj Bhavan with Mr Vidyasagar Rao as the Chief Guest.
They also criticised the CM for his PowerPoint presentation in the Assembly on irrigation, stating that, “He had already decided to redesign and re-engineer all projects and he wanted MLAs and the public to agree to all his decisions. How can decisions be taken without debate, and what is the use of a debate after decisions have been taken?”
They demanded that Mr Rao disclose what transpired between him and Maharashtra Governor and for what reasons did he agree for a reduction of the height of Tammidihatti barrage from 152 to 148 metres.
