Ocean gallery soon in Kozhikode

The project coming up at a cost of Rs 50 lakh will replace the human endurance gallery in the planetarium.

KOZHIKODE: The Regional Science Centre and Planetarium here is setting up an ocean gallery explaining the complex world of marine life using interactive models. Soon the science buffs will be able to see how tsunami is created and the science behind the waves. A giant blue whale model will move in the huge water tank. The project coming up at a cost of Rs 50 lakh will replace the human endurance gallery in the planetarium. At present the only ocean galleries functioning in India are at Lucknow and Goa. RSC&P technical officer Jayant Ganguly told DC that the gallery would help the public understand the science behind the known phenomena in ocean.

“Despite occupying a lion share of the planet, oceans are still unexplored. The interactive exhibits, large marine and sweet water live aquaria, video displays, multimedia games and scenic recreations in this gallery explain the concepts of underwater phenomena and the vast resources of food, minerals, energy, medicine, transport, tourism, sports, trade and so on,” he said. “Despite the complex science involved in it, the gallery will make it easy for school students to understand things,” he added. Chief Minister will inaugurate the gallery in April.
