Student police cadet will be extended to entire state: Dr G Parameshwar

Bengaluru: A summer camp for student police cadet services was inaugurated at Kanteerava Stadium on Wednesday. In his address Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar said the home ministry will propose to extend the student police cadet programme to the entire state.

“The programme will help instill discipline among students, abide by law and order and make them good citizens. As of now only 40 schools are having the student police cadet programme. This is a pilot project and after going through the results, it will be extended to all the schools in the state.” he said.

“Students at the early age should be taught discipline, nationalism, moral values for comprehensive personality growth. Unfortunately today such values among the students are deteriorating,” the minister said. He lamented that rising intolerance was dividing the country’s social fabric. Satyamurthy, Commissioner, public instruction department said, “There are over 1.1 crore children studying from 1-10th standard in schools across the state. The education department is ready to make a pact with police department to extend the police cadet services to all the schools in state. The programme should be made mandatory in government, aided and unaided schools too.”

On being asked whether the state government was planning to shift the CID office from Carlton House to make way for a for legislators, the minister said, “The home ministry will request the state government to drop such plans as the building is very much suitable for CID.”
